OSHKOSH, Wis. (November 28, 2018) — Oshkosh Defense, LLC, an Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE: OSK) company, announced today that the U.S. Army has placed a $1.69 billion order for 6,107 Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTV) and associated installed and packaged kits. Today’s delivery order marks the tenth order under the contract that was awarded to Oshkosh in August 2015.
“The JLTV is engineered with industry leading suspension and protection systems, as well as the ability to support a spectrum of mission kits and weapon systems required for the modern battlefield,” said George Mansfield, Vice President and General Manager of Joint Programs at Oshkosh Defense. “This vehicle represents a technological leap forward that provides enhanced protection and extreme mobility both off-road and in dense urban terrain.”
To date, Oshkosh has delivered more than 2,600 vehicles. Oshkosh expects a Full Rate Production (FRP) decision in December 2018, followed by first Army unit equipped in early 2019.
“The JLTV also features a VICTORY compliant modular, scalable, open architecture system to support rapidly evolving C4ISR suites,” Mansfield continued. “This provides our Soldiers and Marines a vehicle that is capable of serving as a mobile command center. Today, other vehicles with this level of C4ISR capability are much larger, with little mobility.”
The JLTV fills a critical capability gap for the U.S. Army and Marine Corps by replacing a large portion of the legacy uparmored HMMWV fleet with a modern light protected vehicle.

The Iveco – Oto Melara Consortium (CIO), which includes Iveco Defence Vehicles, the latter being a subsidiary of CNH Industrial (NYSE: CNHI /MI: CNHI), has signed a contract with the Italian Army for the first tranche of ten Centauro II Vehicles, (named by the Italian Army as “New Blindo Centauro”). The contract was signed on July 24, 2018 in the presence of the Italian Army Chief of Staff and of the Land Armaments Director by the Iveco – Oto Melara Consortium (CIO) senior management at Guidoni Palace, headquarters of the General Secretariat of Defence and of the National Armaments Directorate.
The Centauro II marks a major step forward compared to the previous Centauro I, in terms of power, observation capability, mobility, ergonomics, firing range, communication and maximum crew protection.
Equipped with a new power pack delivering over 700hp and with H-drive architecture, a hallmark of the 8×8 Centauro range, Centauro II features an entirely digital system and a new generation turret mounting with a 120 mm gun.
The result is a new concept of wheeled armored vehicle capable of operating in any scenario: from national security missions, to peace-keeping and support operations including all interventions involving the Italian Armed Forces.
The CIO contract, including vehicles, equipment and logistics, is worth 159 million euros, with some 65 million euros relating to Iveco Defence Vehicles.
This delivery is the first tranche of a total of 136 units.
Iveco Defence Vehicles will provide its 8×8 amphibious armored platform design, core components and services under a contract arrangement worth up to $400 million US Dollars for the first four years, to support BAE Systems in the frame of their contract with the US Marine Corps.
In the frame of the contract awarded by the US Marine Corps to BAE Systems’ team for the manufacture of the next generation of Amphibious Combat Vehicles (ACV), CNH Industrial (NYSE: CNHI /MI: CNHI) subsidiary Iveco Defence Vehicles will provide its 8×8 amphibious armored platform design, core components and services.
“This award represents a milestone in the transformation of Iveco Defence Vehicles into a global player”, said Vincenzo Giannelli, President and CEO of Iveco Defence Vehicles. “Through our partnership with BAE Systems on this program, our know-how and technical excellence have been recognized and are placed at the service of the US Marine Corps. We now have the privilege of contributing to building the future of its amphibious combat vehicles”.
The initial award by the US Marine Corps is for 30 vehicles, with options for a total of 204 vehicles.
The ACV is an advanced 8×8 open ocean-capable vehicle that is equipped with a new six-cylinder, 700hp engine, which provides a significant power increase over the current Assault Amphibious Vehicle. The vehicle delivers best-in-class mobility in all terrain and has a suspended interior seat structure for 13 embarked Marines, blast-mitigating positions for a crew of three, and improved survivability and force protection over currently fielded systems. The team has conducted extensive risk mitigation testing and evaluation for water operations, land mobility and survivability that have proven the solution’s capabilities.
Iveco Defence Vehicles and BAE Systems teamed together in the very early phases of this program to offer a superior solution to the US Marines for their ACV requirement. As a result of this successful teaming relationship, the first 16 prototypes were delivered to the Marine Corps in 2017. Over the past 15 months, the companies supported the US Marine Corps’ Developmental Testing and Operational Assessment of these vehicles whose performance achieved superlative results for water operations, land operations, carry/payload, and protection.
As a leading provider of protected and integrated mobility solutions to military and civil protection customers, Iveco Defence Vehicles brings proven experience, having designed and built more than 30,000 multi-purpose, protected and armored military vehicles in service today.
Saab has received an order from the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency (NDMA) for deliveries of Carl-Gustaf®ammunition. The order value amounts to SEK 110 million and deliveries will take place in 2018.
The order comes under the terms of Saab’s framework agreement signed with the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency in 2017 regarding Carl-Gustaf ammunition. The framework agreement enables the customer to place orders for live and training ammunition rounds during the period 2017-2022. The ammunition will be used by the Norwegian Armed Forces, currently operating the Carl-Gustaf in both M2 and M3 versions.
“This is the second order from the Norwegian customer since we signed the framework contract and for us this is a clear proof of their trust in our ammunition portfolio. The Norwegian Armed Forces has been a user of the Carl-Gustaf system for many years and we know that they only want the best ammunition for their soldiers. We will supply them with that”, says Görgen Johansson, head of Saab´s business area Dynamics.
Saab’s world-leading weapon system Carl-Gustaf has a long and distinguished service history all around the world, including the Nordic and Baltic region. Employing a wide range of ammunition types, the Carl-Gustaf system allows dismounted soldiers to take on multiple challenges – from neutralising armoured vehicles to clearing obstacles and defeating enemies in buildings. The Carl-Gustaf system, which has been sold to more than 40 countries, is successively being developed with new ammunition types and enhanced capabilities.
Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) received an $828 million not-to-exceed contract from the U.S. Army for Lot 13 production of Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) rockets and associated equipment.
The contract calls for the production of GMLRS Alternative Warhead (AW) rockets, GMLRS Unitary rockets, Reduced-Range Practice Rockets (RRPRs) and integrated logistics support for the U.S. Army as well as GMLRS rounds for a number of international customers. Work will be performed at the Lockheed Martin facilities in Dallas and at the company’s Precision Fires Center of Excellence in Camden, Ark.
“The GMLRS round continues to perform exceptionally well for our customers,” said Gaylia Campbell, vice president of Precision Fires and Combat Maneuver Systems at Lockheed Martin. “And we are always executing continuous improvement initiatives to enhance performance, range and affordability of these critical rounds to assure they remain the preferred precision-strike option for our warfighters.”
GMLRS is an all-weather rocket designed for fast deployment that delivers precision strike beyond the reach of most conventional weapons. The GMLRS AW was the first munition developed to service area targets without the effects of unexploded ordinance, complying with the DoD cluster munitions policy. GMLRS Unitary rockets greatly exceed the required combat reliability rate and have established a reputation for affordability. The RRPR allows users to train with realistic, full-motored rockets with limited flight range, making them ideal for smaller testing ranges.
In combat operations, each GMLRS rocket is packaged in a MLRS launch pod and is fired from the Lockheed Martin HIMARS or M270 family of launchers. For more than 40 years, Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control has been the leading designer and manufacturer of long-range, surface-to-surface precision strike solutions, providing highly reliable, combat-proven systems like MLRS, HIMARS, ATACMS and GMLRS to domestic and international customers.
Defence and security company Saab has signed a contract for production and deliveries of Saab´s New Lightweight Torpedo to the Finnish Navy. The contract signed is part of the Squadron 2000 Mid-Life Upgrade Programme (SQ2000 MLU) of the Finnish Navy´s four Hamina fast attack crafts (FAC) as described in separate Saab press release.
Saab has been selected as a major supplier for the Finnish Navy’s Squadron 2000 Mid-Life Upgrade programme. The Squadron 2000 upgrade will ensure and develop the mission capability of the Finnish Navy. Included in the contract are Saab´s New Lightweight Torpedo, torpedo systems, documentation, training and support. Deliveries will commence in 2018.
System integration of the torpedoes on the Hamina-class vessels will be carried out together with Patria as the prime contractor in Squadron 2000 Mid-Life Upgrade.
“We are honoured that the Finnish Navy has selected Saab as the supplier of this new capability for the Finnish Defence Forces. Saab’s new torpedo has been developed to master the challenging conditions in littoral waters as well as blue waters. With Sweden also having ordered the same system there will be further opportunities for deeper cooperation between the two navies in the anti-submarine domain in the future”, says Anders Gardberg, Director of Saab’s Country Unit Finland.
“This first export order on our new torpedo is a milestone for us and our underwater business. With this order, the Finnish Navy will have the most sophisticated torpedo system available on the market. The torpedo´s wire control system enables operator support, allowing commanders to engage targets in close vicinity of friendly units as well as in narrow spaces. The new torpedo system will give the Finnish Defence Forces a whole new strength”, says Görgen Johansson, Senior Vice President and head of Saab´s Business Area Dynamics.
With this contract, Finland becomes Saab´s second customer on the New Lightweight Torpedo system. In May 2016, the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) placed an order for the development and production of the New Lightweight Torpedo system for the Royal Swedish Navy. With Finland and Sweden operating the same torpedo system, training and logistics will be efficient.
Saab’s Lightweight Torpedo System is a flexible, advanced Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) solution for littoral conditions. This makes it the ideal solution for littorals and resistant to a variety of countermeasures. As a flexible system, it can be launched from surface ships, aircraft and submarines in anti-submarine and anti-surface roles. It works equally well in both littoral and blue waters and in cold, warm and brackish conditions.
Defence and security company Saab has received an order from the Finnish Defence Forces for the Next generation Light Anti-Tank Weapon system (NLAW). Deliveries will take place during 2017.
The Finnish Defence Forces have been a user of the NLAW weapon system since 2007, then becoming the second export customer of the system. This order is a call-up of an option as part of a previous contract with the customer, announced in 2015, regarding delivery of NLAW weapon systems.
“The interest for our NLAW system has increased significantly in recent years. This order is a strong proof of this and we look forward to deliver a high capability weapon system to the Finnish Defence Forces. NLAW provides the single soldier with a true anti-tank capability, previously not available on the battlefield”, says Görgen Johansson, head of Saab´s business area Dynamics”
During the recently held military exercise Aurora 17, in Sweden, the NLAW system was used by both Swedish and Finnish forces.
“There is a long-lasting commercial relationship between Saab and the Finnish Defence Forces. This call-up of an option from the 2015 contract demonstrates high trust and confidence from the Finnish Defence Forces towards the NLAW system”, says Anders Gardberg, head of Saab in Finland.
NLAW is a shoulder-launched, anti-tank missile system that attacks the target from above. This makes it the most effective anti-tank weapon for dismounted light forces operating in any environment, including built-up areas. Originally developed for Sweden and Great Britain, it meets all requirements for a modern anti-tank weapon system for use during international operations as well as for national defence.
